Ambassador Bremer Appoints Roliff Purrington

Senior Advisor For the Ministry of Housing & Construction

Monday, April 26 -- Today Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) Administrator Ambassador L. Paul Bremer announced the appointment of Roliff Purrington as Senior Advisor for the Ministry of Housing and Construction. Mr. Purrington has served the CPA as an advisor to the Ministry of Environment since 22 March 2004 and will continue to serve in that capacity.

In his new position Mr. Purrington will work closely with Housing and Construction Minister Baqir Jabor Al-Zubaidi and offer guidance on Ministry operations. Also, the Senior Advisor serves as the direct point of contact between the Ministry and Ambassador Bremer. The Ministry of Housing and Construction is responsible for projects related to housing, public buildings, roads and bridges for the benefit of the Iraqi people.

?Roliff will be a valuable addition to the Ministry of Housing and Construction, he has been an important asset for the CPA and is well qualified to serve the Ministry in these crucial days as we prepare for the June 30 transfer of sovereignty to an interim Iraqi government,? said Bremer. ?He will play a significant role supporting the Minister, to ensure that the Ministry?s mission is successful and the housing needs of the Iraqi people are met.?

Mr. Purrington was born in Roanoke, Virginia, before coming to work for CPA he lived in Houston, Texas. He is a graduate of Yale University, with a B.A, in History; at Yale he was a National Scholar, graduated with honors and was a quarterback on the varsity football team. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Virginia Law School, Charlottesville, Virginia and his M.B.A. from the University of Chicago, Graduate School of Business International Program in Barcelona, Spain.

Mr. Purrington was a partner in the law firm Mayor, Day, Caldwell and Keeton in Houston and Austin, Texas and prior to that an associate attorney with Hunton and Williams in Richmond, Virginia. Most recently he has worked with Cherokee Investment Partners, L.L.C. Cherokee is a private equity fund active in North America and Western Europe investing in environmentally impaired and otherwise distressed real estate projects.
