physical memoey dump

When I Boot Up i get the blue screen. the error reads
Stop: Coooo218 {registry File Failure}
The registry cannot load the hive (File):
\systemroot\sytem32\config\software
or its log or alternate.
It is corrupt, absent, or not writable

beginning physical memory dump
physical memory complete

i have read it could be a bad memory, but i have 2 hards drives both are bootable. the 2nd one workds fine. so it couldnt be the ram. and i can access all my files from from the HD that wont boot when it is installed as a slave. so i take it that the HD didnt die
please help
the computer is a
dell 2400
2.4 celeron
256mb ram
with a
wd caviar se 200 gig hd - wont boot
and a Seagate 80 gig hd - works fine
i use zone alarm and eztrust anti virus
i regularly check for spyware-adaware with
spybot - adaware - and spy sweeper so i dont think that is the problem
