photo will not load on aol mail but will on system mail

by seratan / December 6, 2010 3:11 AM PST

I have a ppc mac mini with 10.5.8 loaded. I cannot load photo on america on line mail. the wheel
keeps spinning and after some time an error comes up and tells me to try again. The strange part is that a couple of months I sent an e-mail and got the photo to load on aol mail.
But if I use the mos x mail it will load without any problem. Since I use the aol mail I would
like to be able to do the same thing as on system mail. Can anybody help?

try calling AOL Tech Support

if it works in Apple MAIL but does not in AOL, I would suspect an AOL problem.

Are you using AOL desktop or do you go to their website to sign in

Do you go to the AOL website, using your browser (possibly Safari)
OR
Do you use AOL software?

What happens when you try to attach a photo?
by mrmacfixit Forum moderator / December 7, 2010 8:45 AM PST
In reply to: aol

Where is the photo you are trying to attach?

If it is in iPhoto, it will probably not load. Drag the photo onto the desktop, it will make a copy, and go from there

I hate to ask for help again after just a short time. But I wanted to send written words like
a letter. Again I do not know how to do this. I tried a couple of things but it was a bust.
Hope you can help me again

Is this "letter" already on your computer?

If it is, then you just attach it in the same way as you attach you photo's

I tried it two ways without success. I copied the letter onto the desktop and tried from there and this came up.
The file you selected is not an image. Please try again.
The second time I put it in iphoto and this came up Unreadable the following file could not be imported.
The file is an unrecognized format. I most be doing something wrong but I don't know why.

How did you get this letter into your computer
by mrmacfixit Forum moderator / December 10, 2010 7:43 AM PST
In reply to: letter

in the first place?
Was it scanned or is it an email, or what?

iPhoto only recognizes photos. Files with names that end in .jpg for instance.

Click on that letter and then hold down the Command key and press "I"
In the resulting window it will tell you what type of file it is.
Tell me.

AOL and other web based emails change with the wind. Try another email service like google mail.

SINGLE click the "letter"
Press and hold down the Command Key
Now press the "I" (the letter I for Indian) on the keyboard.
In the resulting window, it will tell you what type of file it is.

then you tell me.

This procedure does NOT send any email, it is just to find out what type of file it is and how you should go about sending it via AOL

Slowly but surely,

Hold down the Command Key does nothing by itself but, you will note that I asked you to hold down the Command Key then press the "I" key.
That certainly does do something. It opens the Get Info screen.

Now that we have established that your letter will open in Pages, can we assume that you made the letter in Pages?

There are some organizations that do not allow, for some reason, .pages files.
Open the letter and go to File > Save As and choose Word as the file type.
Then try to email it again

scan letter
by seratan / December 13, 2010 9:57 AM PST
In reply to: Slowly but surely,

I tried everything you suggested even change word as file type and nothing worked.
I then thought of this----I printed the letter and then scanned it and saved it as a picture
It worked. I don't know if I did something wrong in what you wanted me to do but this is the only
thing that worked

Somehow I doubt you actually did as I asked
by mrmacfixit Forum moderator / December 13, 2010 8:54 PM PST
In reply to: scan letter

but if you did, then you would have a second copy of the "letter" but in a different format. (NOT the one you scanned in)

Then you would just attach the file as normal and it would have worked.

Believe me, the scanning method is a long winded, unnecessary, way to attach a file with AOL.
