If you don't feel confident editing the registry, it may be necessary for you to find someone who is. When a third party program incorrectly alters the registry, sometimes the only way to fix the problem is alter it back. BUT FIRST, try this:
Try enabling "View as Web Page": Go to the folder where the pictures are, RIGHT click on the folder, choose "View as Web Page" from the menu, IF it's available on Win2000. Now see if the pictures work correctly.
If that doesn't help, try "repairing" Internet Explorer. You didn't mention which version of IE you have, so please choose from the correct link below:

Thank you for your prompt answer. However the item "View As Web Page" (in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 192573) is not present in the View section of Windows Explorer of Win 2000 Professional. And I dare not touch the Registry !
How can I find a way to restore "Displaying Image Preview" in Windows Explorer?
