Photo (thumbnail) preview in a Windows folder

by LABAY / February 22, 2004 11:49 PM PST

Thank you for your prompt answer. However the item "View As Web Page" (in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 192573) is not present in the View section of Windows Explorer of Win 2000 Professional. And I dare not touch the Registry !

How can I find a way to restore "Displaying Image Preview" in Windows Explorer?

Thanks so much for your help.

Bob,

If you don't feel confident editing the registry, it may be necessary for you to find someone who is. When a third party program incorrectly alters the registry, sometimes the only way to fix the problem is alter it back. BUT FIRST, try this:

Try enabling "View as Web Page": Go to the folder where the pictures are, RIGHT click on the folder, choose "View as Web Page" from the menu, IF it's available on Win2000. Now see if the pictures work correctly.

If that doesn't help, try "repairing" Internet Explorer. You didn't mention which version of IE you have, so please choose from the correct link below:

How to repair Internet Explorer 5

Hope this helps.

Bob,

Glad we could help and make sure to "watch and learn" while the "friend" edits your registry. Yes, a mistake could cause major problems, but it's not that "tough" and something you could do yourself, if you try. When working with computers, eventually you will need to do a registry edit. You start by making a backup of the registry, in case of a mistake, and then making the registry edit carefully.

Hope this helps.
