Photo suite software

by Helen_registerednurse / October 9, 2005 5:50 AM PDT

I have Windows XP on my ABS computer. On my old HP computer I also have Windows XP. However, when I attept to download a fantastic photo suite program that came loaded on my HP computer I can't get it to transfer correctly. This software is HP Photo Suite version and is the best photo program I've ever used since it allow the user to download photos from any source, change the color, the texture, the pixels, the size, etc. besides the usual brightness, cropping, blemishes, etc. I haven't found anything like it on the market. Yet, I cna't figure out how to get it from one computer to the other one. I've already attempted to download it on a flash drive, CD and all of the normal routes believe me. Can you help?
Thank you,

In your old computer use explorer to open the folder with the program file. Look for 'setup.exe' or 'set up. inst', or any sub file that looks like an install file.
Copy it to dvd and transfer it to your new computer. If your lucky it may install the program under the new operating system. If not and your computer is a desktop, install the old hard drive as a slave and use the existing program.

Transferring programs

Helen, by downloading from one computer to the other, I assume you mean copying the whole program folder and its contents to the other computer.

But it doesn't work that way I'm afraid. When you run a setup or installation file to install software, the installation process copies files to different locations on your computer, not just into the main Program Files/Program name folder, but possibly into Windows/System32, and/or Documents and Settings as well. In addition, the instal may be registered into Windows XP Registry.

There is no way that you can find all these files and/or registry entries and copy them across to a new computer. Many software applications have tried, but have never succeeded as far a I know.

What has already been suggested is the way to go. Find the original setup file, it might be on the CD that your got the program off, copy that across and start the installation procedure again.

If you got the program off the internet originally, goto the program's web site and see if you can re-download the original setup file. (The program's Help > About may have a web site for you).

Even transferring the hard disk will probably not work, as the hive registry for your new XP computer will not have the registry entries for the program.

Good luck.

Hi, Helen ...

Is this software that was included with your HP Printer? If so, you should have a HP installation CD which can be used to install Photo Suite on your new computer.

If no luck, check out Picasa . It is freeware and IMHO much better than HP photo software.
