Question

photo software designer needed

Apr 22, 2012 2:00PM PDT

I am looking for some basic photo editing software that can have my brand on it and clients can download it from my website.
Prefer off the shelf, but would anyone be interested in doing this for me?

Answer
Please define "basic"

I had this conversation with a rather non-computer science "business" person and their definition of basic included about every feature we find in PhotoShop. They were adamant that such software would be trivial to create and were furious that I would not participate in their business.

Never heard from them or saw them on the internet again.

basic?

I don't think you should judge new business based on a bad experience with one client.
Gets us off on the wrong foot to begin with Happy

Basic - crop, contrast, lighten/darken, rotate, add text, add template.
No layers needed or complicated range as in photoshop.

The software would import customers images from their computer, facebook or other and be able to edit and place in templates which would be my product range for printing. Then go to a payment gateway.

There are many that exist already, there's nothing unique about what I need. But in saying that, I absolutely realize the expertise needed to achieve a great result and am not underestimating a designer's skill.

The ones that exist are mostly out of my price range.

All those are not "basic".

And I didn't judge here. I have been developing hardware, software since the 80's so while you may think it is basic look at that mention of facebook.

Right there I see the expectations of the glitz and more to be very high. For that sort of work you have one team member that does nothing but the icons and more.

It quickly hits about a million in no time flat.

BTW. I am always interested but
Apr 23, 2012 4:02PM PDT

My software has always been for non-consumer use. Mostly embedded apps (no windows) and setup tools for industrial controls.

Such work has always been done with hard estimates and the one thing that none of this software does have is any shiny graphics. Yes I do have some apps that deal with images but again nothing glamorous.

I wonder about the issue with team size and costs.

PS. Recent post about estimating.

Do you have your "spec"?

Sounds like your not the right guy then.
Anyone else?

White Label

Your best bet is to find a ready made solution that's designed for white label or rebranding.

Do you recommend any?

And I know people.

But I don't pass such on without some spec and feel for the person asking for the work. I have folk that have been on projects with me in the past but I see an incomplete spec and signs that the person seeking the app is thinking this is simple. It's not simple or you would have your better than average high school kid or in college programmer do it.

I can pass it up to others but I have no spec and those signs that need addressing.

Why not Pixenate for 195 bucks?

You can't get a programmer to do that for that much!
