Photo proportion problem

Nov 13, 2009 10:21PM PST

Hello,
I am hoping someone can help me.
When I download photos from my SD card onto my computer and view them on the computer, They are distorted. The width/height ratio has changed, typically, this results in people looking taller and thinner than they should be.
When the SD card is in the camera, photographs appear as normal.
Any ideas?
Mike

What program do you use on the PC ...

to view the pictures?

And what's their exact size (width x height in pixels)?

And not to forget: what camera? And what software to copy them to the PC?

I understand your first 2 answers. You've got a Kodak V610 camera and used it to make a picture with a (rather low, but that doesn't matter) resolution of 720 x 576 pixels. So that's on the camera (either in its RAM or - more likely - on a SD-card).

And you've got a Epson 4490 scannner: http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/consumer/consDetail.jsp?oid=63056498.

But I'm missing the link between a pic on a camera and a scanner.

So let me repeat my questions.
1. How do you transfer the pic to the hard disk of your PC?
2. What's the filetype (extension) of the pic on the hard disk?
3. What program do you use to view it (f.e. Windows Picture Viewer or Adobe Photoshop or Irfanview or Internet Explorer).

Picture distorted

Hello Kees,
I will try again.
1/ From a dvd slideshow. I pause the frame that is of interest and copy it to 'My Pictures'.

2/ BMP.

3/ Adobe Photoshop.

Hope this is of use to you.

I'm getting more and more confused. In your OP you talk about pics on what appears to be your Kodak camera. Now it's from a DVD slideshow. Do you use your camera to make a picture of your monitor showing a slideshow that you play from a DVD?

How does the pic look if you use MS Paint to view it in stead of Photoshop?

Sorry, I'm confusing myself now.
I will go away and hopefully come back with something that makes sense.
