Photo editing software that makes a transparent background?

Jun 2, 2009 12:12PM PDT

I tried GIMP, and I followed the instructions and it didn't work for me.

Is there a free software that will make a transparent image background???

Thanks a lot!

I used IRFANVIEW for the last step.

This is NOT an offer to write a tutorial. Here's what I did for the LAST STEP. You can continue to use your current editing software.

Since I need an image that supports transparency I used IRFANVIEW to load the image. Now I did a Save As and selected GIF for the output then in the options I found and checked off the box that says somethink like "let the user select the color that will be transparent."

I'm done.

I don't have this option you are referring to, about user keeping the color. I clicked Save As and marked GIF, but I didn't see this option at all. Sad

Have you tried Paint.Net ? It is very easy to use, has loads of features and tutorials, and best of all it's free. Making transparent backgrounds is a breeze.
