Photo and Video wise: Mac or PC

Mar 3, 2012 3:42AM PST

Ok, I know this will start a fire storm, but I'm not looking for Apple Fanatics to overtake this post. I have a legit question, and hope to get a legit answer with good, supported points.

First off, I am not a computer Newb by no means, I do have knowledge, not a ton but I know my way around. I am a Newb to the forums though!

I just bought a new Digital SLR camera for my wife and I to take on vacations. We love taking pictures and already have many from previous vacations. We are also hoping for our first child soon, so there will be plenty of photos and videos to come with that.

Basically my question is, are Macs or PCs better for photo and video things like editing, cropping, and overall experience. I have been debating on purchasing an iMac for a while now and would just like some opinions.

And if you're feeling froggy, give your opinion on which is better overall. Thanks in advance for your help guys!

Equal. Why?

Both have adobe photoshop. Both have me fitting a color calibrator. So no advantage on photo editing here.

But the Apple wins me over since I'm not scanning for a virus everyday.

I'm sure you can do what you want with either

One consideration then would be, other than the one Bob mentions, is the cost. I'm relatively sure the software available can do similar chores to a level acceptable to your desires. If a budget is a concern, then investigate the cost of which ever platform is chosen. Mac based computers tend to be more expensive vs the PC (Microsoft based) but that is only a single reason to base the choice on. Ask fellow users that have the software that is your choice. Most are available for each platform, maybe even have someone demonstrate both platforms with the same or similar software to see for yourself which one YOU like the best. In the end, it doesn't really matter which way about the discussion goes if you are happy with the choice.

I don't think just simply photo and video should be the one determining your Mac vs PC issue because they both can produce an outstanding photography or filmography if done by someone who's really good at it.

This is how I look at Mac vs PC:

Mac has a simple interface with a handful of limits.

PCs have a bit more complicated interface than Mac with a lot of options to choose from.

I personally would go with the Mac because I'm not a hacker and I like to keep my things as simple as possible.
I'm not an expert at this so this is really just a consumer's advice.
