I would run a 50 foot Ethernet cable versus 50 foot telephone cable for the simple reason that the Ethernet cable is much more robust. However, the optimal solution would be to put in a wireless router and wireless card and just go without the cable altogether.
I am switching from dial-up to broadband and I have a bedroom computer and my potential phone jack is in another room approximatly 40ft away is it better to use ethernet extension to reach computer because verizon reccomends that modem be hooked up directly to phone jack or run a longer phone line and put modem closer to computer ? What is the best way for good connection purposes and speed to do a distant hookup like this? Does it matter if modem is directly hooked up to jack or can I just run a long phone line and use USB instead of ethernet? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you.
