Question

Phone dropping call whilst dialing out

Hello

I have just replaced my BT cordless phones with two Gigaset S850's. Initially the phones were fine but gradually both phones when dialing out would drop the call and revert to the dial tone, it has gradually got worse and the only way to resolve it is to either remove and re insert the handset batteries or reboot the base station. This problem has occurred on several handsets over the last few years. I am surrounded by a lot of IT equipment such as PC's servers, printers, screens, satelitte receivers. There does not appear to be an issue on my land line and a corded phone works fine. The only issue that I can think of is electro magnetic radiation interfering with the phones. Has anybody any ideas. Many thanks.

And did you try other make/model sets?

Phone dropping call whilst dialling out

Thanks for your suggestion. I have not tried the old phones again yet, but I had other cordless phones which I have now thrown out but experienced the same problem so it does not look as if the phones are the problem. I am looking at EMF meters but could try and shut down all Wi Fi and other equipment and see if that makes a difference. My phone company has never come across this issue and can only check the line which is fine.

When I changed phones last time

I specifically looked to be sure that they didn't work on the common WiFi 2.4GHz because you know.

Mine appear to be DECT 6 in the 5.8GHz band noted at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Enhanced_Cordless_Telecommunications

This is done to avoid microwave ovens interference (see that Wikipedia.)

If mine drop it's usually because I ignored charging the battery or the caller dropped. Your drop on dial out is annoying but doesn't really tell me much other than to try another model.

Finally I run into situations where the phone lines are just too long. Or the owner has 20 phones and a fax machine. We have to drop the distance to the demarcation box and reduce what's on the lines to just what needs to be there. Any old, worn or suspect cables are swapped out too.

This doesn't nail it for some but it's what I do.
