Phone Dialer error in Win XP Pro

by johnlynne / July 15, 2005 7:12 AM PDT

Whenever I use phone dialer from my Outlook contact list an error immediately appears stating " an error has occured in dialer. Close the window and try again" (or close to that). This has been going on for months but fortunately it is not killing me. It is just a missed convenience.

I'll try any suggestion to correct this headache.

I have replaced the dailer program file, but that made no difference.

Thanks

John

Yes, I can get onto the internet. I have broad band! There are no other problems with this PC, just that stupid error message when I click on "Start Call" . Then that message appears.

This is a replacement modem in the PC. Don't ask why I removed the initial modem. I have thought that the intital modem may have left a ghost, but I can't find it.

Can you use the replacement modem to access the internet?

I know you're on broadband, but if the telephone line is connected into the back of the computer to your modem you should be able to access the internet through it.

You could try by using broadband to search for a dialup ISP in your area, one that only charges for the phone call, (no monthly chages), sign up for that and then test whether you can use the dialup software to browse the internet. (In fact although I have broadband I also have a similar type of dialup ISP for emergencies, eg if the broadband ever goes down).

That way you can test whether it is the modem setup, or something else.
