Philips 170B4 TFT Monitor stays in sleep mode after restart.

Sep 10, 2004 7:01AM PDT

When I restart my computer and it shuts down and reboots, unfortunately my Philips 170B4 TFT monitor remains in sleep mode. Moving mouse and hitting keys does not wake it up. Eventually, after 10/20/30 minutes it springs back to life.
If I am in a rush I have to completely turn off my system and restart complelely.
Might something have changed in XP, my operating system to cause this, or might the answer lie in the BIOS.
Anyone heard of such a problem?
Any help much appreciated.
Bryan Dale.

Hi AussiePete
The problem occurs if I hit Ctrl/Alt/Delete when the computer freezes, the machine reboots, but the monitor for some reason enter a sleep mode and does not wake up. Might take 10/20/30 minutes.
Any help much appreciated.
Bryan.

My bet is the machine has hung up in some odd way and there is no video output to wake the monitor.

You may want to work on finding out why the machine locked up.

I too am having a boot up problem and / or tft problem.

When i boot up pc the first screen showing all the Dos lines of info re pc info and hardware shows on TFT ok
And then before the next screen ( which should be the WINDOWS XP LOGO and blue loading sybols ) the pc either appears to hang or the screen is just blank and i cant change the blank screen image.
So because the screen is blank i dont know if it because the PHILIPS TFT 170B4 is at fault or if the boot up is just hanging after the initial first screen.
So i have to power off and try again ....
The problem is only intermittent and probably happening 20% of bootups. I have not had the hang up / blank screen problem wheni boot up in safe mode.
The TFT screen has never blanked out ever apart from during the boot up as detailed above... So come on guys do i have some sort of mother board/ or bios/ or TFT problems.
Your comments greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Ken uk.

Bryan, try this. Next time you reboot, unplug the power cord for the monitor and plug it back in. I have a similar problem, only mine is that the monitor won't power-down when the computer shuts off. If I do the unplug/replug exercise, even when the computer is running, it works fine... but have to do it every time before I shut down. Still don't know if it's a monitor or a computer problem.

Thanks for all your contribution, really appreciate them.
In the end, because the monitor is only 6 months old and still under warantee I contacted Philips, told them my problem, and they had no hestitation in sending me a replacement monitor.
No hassle, which suggests it is a know problem.
Anyway, no further problems touch wood.
Thanks again,
Bryan.
