Phenom X4 compatibility.

by strongwinds / November 5, 2007 3:54 AM PST

Hi, I was looking into building my Own gaming PC.
I had some questions. is Phenom X4 compatbile with the socket AM2 on a motherboard? I mean i want to get a motherboard that will be compatbile with the X4 but I'm having a hard time finding one. If anyone has a list of X4 compatbile motherboards that would be great.
thanks

Not only does http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_AM2+ answer this but your motherboard maker MUST list the CPU on it's compatibility list.

I can't count how many times I've seen people try to use a CPU that fits in the socket and it won't boot.

If they do...

It will be on their sites. I will not check that for you since it's something you can look for. If I was looking I'd be over at the AMD.com site since they (amd) tend to note who rolls first.

all new socket am2 boards will be compatible with phenom
by ramarc / November 5, 2007 9:08 PM PST

amd released barcelona (phenom) specs over a year ago and any am2 board made in the past 6 months will run it with a bios update.

phenom will come in am2 and am2+ variations
by ramarc / November 6, 2007 7:54 AM PST
In reply to: sure?

any recent am2 socket mobo from a decent manufacturer (asus, msi, gigabyte, etc.) will support the am2 version of the phenom. if you have a pc from dell or hp or some low-end mobo maker, then they may not be compatible simply because dell and hp generally don't release bios updates to enable compatibility with newer processors.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
