Personal setting display delayed to show up

by jeannieradek / December 9, 2008 12:34 AM PST

Hello,

I bought a used laptop: Compaq nx7010 with Pentium M 1.6GHz,512MB RAM Window XP prof 2002. When I start the PC, my personal settings for window display and homepage show up after a 5 minutes delay. What cause this and how to fix it? Thanks for your help.

Jeannie

The PC didn't come with any CD.

Without those we can't repair the OS. let's try this.

Is there any menu that allows you to create restore CDs?

And a followup question. What is the plan when the OS gets corrupted?

I was once told by this (eBay) seller that I could download the recovery from MS online without having the CD. Is it true?

So far, Microsoft has not made XP a downloadable product.

The seller lied and now we are in a pickle. If I knew the make and model I might write how that make and model made restore CDs but that small detail is one I can't find in your posts.

Tell a little more.

Although the page title doesn't mention Compaqs be assured that it does. The page also tells you how to create your own recovery disks if the option to do so when it came from the manufacturer is still available.

Do take the time to actually READ through the page rather than skipping around or dismissing it entirely.
