Either not up to date or up to the task. Since it's not your gear you may be SOL (short of luck) on getting it fixed. But you could try a more direct connection. I like powerline networking to avoid WiFi woes.
For months I have been having a problem maintaining a sustained Internet connection. I live in a house where there is anywhere from 7-14 people using the wifi. About 6 months ago our landlord changed the ISP from DSL to a cable Internet provider. Ever since then I have often been having problems maintaining a Internet connection.
Typically, I can maintain a connection for at least several hours and sometimes the entire day but more often then not. As I am using the Internet, the connection will suddenly drop. The speed has always been fine but it will suddenly stop. At first I thought it was temporary and then I realized it was persistent. I seem to be the only person having this particular problem. People though will occasionally mention the speed but rarely any disconnects.
Oddly, when this happens, I am still able to detect a wireless signal from the router. However if I try to disconnect and reconnect it will indicate an error. I have tried every way to resolve the error from my computer end with no success. My efforts included using the tool to locate the problem, I've tried to update the drivers, I have even replaced first my wireless Internet adapter card on the desktop, and then I tried using a wireless USB device. I have a home built system that runs WIndows 7 and the other drivers are up to date and I'm not having any other computer issues.
All of my efforts have not improved the situation. The only thing that seems to kick the Internet back up once I have one of these disconnects is to unplug the router and plug it back in. Doing this will always resolve the problem for the next couple of hours or so.
The landlord hasn't gotten the phone company to send someone out here but in light of the fact that I'm the only one having these issues I think it's localized. I did try using a new laptop and it will have no issues.
What can I do now to finally solve this problem?
