Resolved Question

permanent image stabilisation ?

May 1, 2012 1:44AM PDT

I have just bought the Panasonic DMC FZ48 and am on a steep learning curve. It seems an amazing piece of kit and I am starting with "Intelligent Auto".

There are so many settings and I wondered why Image stabilisation is a choice. What is the disadvantage of it being permanently on ?

1. Usually draws more power. Folk that want as many pictures per battery charge might turn it off.

2. Some want the effects. So turn off to get some smear?

Tripod use

When using a tripod, stabilization should be turned off. The movement of the IS causes the camera to vibrate, which the IS senses, and again tries to compensate. The result is a feedback loop which translate to blur in the final image.
