Re: machine

This is a nice enough machine for browsing the Internet, even looking video (when connected with broadband), e-mailing and doing word processing and spreadsheets.
Don't use it for high end games and video processing.

You might consider to add 128 Mb of memory, so it totals 256 Mb, for a better performance. If you ever plan to use XP on this machine it's absolutely necessary. 384 or 512 would even be better then.

If the machine is without hardware problems, and the Windows 98 CD and license is included, it seems like a good buy. If there isn't a CD, be sure everything you need from it (all windows cabs files) are on the hard disk (c:\windows\options\cabs, most of the times) and burn them to CD as soon as you can. Also do a driver backup (to cd) if not all driver CD's are present. Two free programs recommended by mod Toni H in http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6138_102-0.html?forumID=31&threadID=124843&messageID=1415217#1415217

Hope this helps.

Another approach

You might be better off spending a few more $$ getting a new PC
with modern OS (Win98SE no longer supported), better hardware...(enough RAM), 19" LCD monitor, warranty, tech support. Really need to figure how much you'd have to spend to add more RAM and upgrade the OS on the used machine .... and compare that to a new PC.
