Pentium M or AMD 64 processors?

I've been shopping for laptops for quite a while and discovered that pentium m (2mb cache) dominates the market. Yet i've found laptops with amd 64 (1mb cache) processors at faster speeds and better prices. Which processor is the better choice?

How many years do you plan to keep up with Microsoft?

Even XP 32-bit uses some 64-bit CPU features. XP-64 is shipping and as soon as some game hits you'll see the sparks fly.

We have a pair of R3000s with AMD 64-bits at the office (I snagged one) and it's nice to have. But we have our reasons as software writers.

For people who don't need more than they run today, 32-bits will suffice until...
