Pentium 4 compatibility

Oct 28, 2004 2:11AM PDT

hi, are all P4s comptabile with all motherboards that are build to hold Pentiums? I ask because im lookin for a new mother board (i currently have a P4 processor) to buy but when i see the chip set that it supports it has pentium 4 but then it has a series of letters and numbers after that. Are there different types of P4s and only work with certain motherboards? i dont wanna end up buying a motherboard that my processer cant work on

You need to check

Most newer ones are but you need to check which ones will be compatible with both processor and memory chips. These details should be given in the motherboard spec.

The P4 comes in a wide variety so that is not enough information. For instance the P4 can be found in Socket 423, Socket 478 and now Socket 775.

That was not in your original posting. So far the only PCI Express boards are Socket 775. I can safely write you don't have a P4 Socket 775.
