Pentax A20 - Canon SD900

In reply to: Pentax optio A20 or Canon powershot SD900

The problem is that no one has reviewed the Pentax A20.

However, the Pentax A10 was reviewed and it produced excellent sharp photos, but had sluggish performance figures. The shutter lag of the A10 was over 1 second (1.1 second), which is poor. All of the performance figures were below par.

I don't expect the A20 to be any better in performance, because they have not had much time to fix the problem. The A20 came out only 6 months after the A10. Probably all they did was put the 10 megapixel sensor in the camera.

Here is the reviews of the Pentax A10 and the Canon SD900:

Image Stabilization a Must!!!

In reply to: Pentax optio A20 or Canon powershot SD900

I don't know about the other camera but I had to return my SD-900 for the SD-800 because the other did not have an Image Stabilizer. I think having IS is a must, and makes a world of a difference.

Image Stabilization

In reply to: still confused

Image Stabilization is most useful when you have a camera with a long optical zoom (6X or greater).

Some camera makers have included it in some of their 3X and 4X optical zoom cameras.
If you have an unsteady hand, it can be helpful.
If you have normal dexterity and steadiness of the hands, you will likely see no benefit from Image Stabilization.
