Question

pdflite software - destroyed files-HELP!

Sep 7, 2013 6:48AM PDT

I wanted to convert a mobi file to a pdf so I could upload it to createspace.

I downloaded pdlite - top free software. I pulled up the file and clicked on convert. It did not convert well and the pdf was not useable. When I went into my files to open up a file I found ALL my pdf/mobi/epub files had been highjacked by the software and had a pdf blank on it they all now show as PDFlite chm under type.

IS there anyway I can undo this? I uninstalled the software - ran all my security software and restarted my computer. But when I went to down load a mobi file from my cloud acct it again redid the file to a pdlitechm.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Could be, depending on your OS

Depending on what version of Windows you have, there is an excellent way to recover. However since you neglected to say what that was, I'm afraid I have to tell you my dog broke my crystal ball. Grin

If your files really have been lost...
Sep 9, 2013 3:33AM PDT

...you can use the Windows Explorer (aka Computer) to locate the folder the files are in, then right-click that folder and click Properties -> Previous Versions. Whenever Windows creates System Restore files, it saves previous versions of your files, so you can use this to get at them. You have to do it soon after you lose them though because Windows only keeps so many of these, and it deletes the oldest whenever it creates a new one.

Good luck.

That does not sound like a hijack but an association issue.
Sep 8, 2013 6:36AM PDT

Did you try associating the PDF files with another viewer like Foxit's Reader?
Bob

PS. I don't write about basic Windows skills like associations unless the member tells us they are new to Windows.

Try downloading Foxit reader from here

Go to this site and download the free Foxit Reader
http://www.foxitsoftware.com/downloads/ . It will open PDF files. A lot of folks prefer it to the Adobe reader. When you can't open PDFs with Adobe, you should try the Foxit reader.

Good luck.
