Question

pdf / DPaint quality drop

Apr 13, 2014 7:39PM PDT

When I print a pdf image, I get a certain print quality. Sometimes, for reasons of scaling, I change the image to (for example) 80%, then do a Print Screen, and paste it on a DPaint page, then save as a .bmp file. The quality of the resulting bmp file has dropped from the original pdf file.
Any ideas of how to keep the quality?

Might depend on how you scale it (you didn't tell). A print screen certainly isn't a very good way, because it lowers the resolution to the resolution of the screen. And it might depend on how DPaint picks up the contents of the clipboard.

I find Irfanview (free) to open a pdf-file and then reduce the size and sharpen it and excellent way of doing this.

Thanks, Kees, I' ll give it a try. I also found dropping the CTRL Print image onto a new Photoshop page gives the same (lower) quality.
To answer you on scaling: I change the screen size by changing the %-value at the top of the pdf file, from for example, 100% to 64%. This gives me a change in scaling on the bmp file.
