Question

PDF Download Problem

Mar 15, 2015 4:44AM PDT

Our two home computers have rather suddenly become unable to download PDFs from websites. We suspect our problem is with HughesNet satellite service and are having it checked out by HughesNet tech. support. Tried to download a CNET speed test but got an error message it is incompatible with my 32-bit Dell Precision T3500. Running Windows 7. We have also had our computers checked-out by Microsoft tech support. Any theories? Thanks

My theory: your computer has been hacked by a socalled Microsoft tech. Moreover, it's quite unlikely a speedtest is incompatible with an OS, since it runs in a browser. It should run in all browsers in a 32-bit version of Windows 7.

Just a theory, of course.

PDF Download Problem

My PC skill level is intermediate at best, so I need outside support. Microsoft Support was actually helpful in dealing with several other computer issues but I get your point. Thank you for the reply.

Thank you for your thoughts. Interesting theory but our two laptops appear to have the same laptop problem and they have never been touched by Microsoft Support.

The guess here is that you need to uncheck web integration

That way the PDF file is treated like all other files. Your claim is that it's only PDFs so my thought is that your PCs don't work well with Adobe's or other app's web integration. Simple to work around. Just uncheck this and the file will land in your download folder to be opened with your choice of PDF viewer.

You'll want to use NINITE to get a viewer. Here's why:

Reader, Foxit Reader and more are under the Documents section.
