PDA with camera

Oct 4, 2004 12:17AM PDT

I'm new to the handheld market. I've been researching pdas. I really want windows operating system with a digital camera included, but there are not many to choose from. Why is that? Should I forget the camera aspect or purchase a pda with a slot to attach a camera? Has anyone tried the "slotted camera"? I'm also afraid I'll buy one and then in 1 or 2 months there will arrive a bunch of new products to choose from. I never thought I'd have so much trouble picking out a pda. Help!

" Why is that? "

This is a simple side effect of patents. One can't just willy nilly add a camera to a device without running afoul of a patent. Since there are products with said camera then it's left to you to decide if that's a feature you must have.

In parting, I have the Zire 71 and its camera is less than useful. The focus is fine for about 2 feet out and then it's out of focus. Maybe just my unit, but I didn't dissect it to see if I could adjust that.

I am planning on using the pda at work. I work with a large inventory of medical supplies. I want to put the inventory on the pda and use it to check stock. I am alway looking at the products and comparing catalog numbers and sizes. I thought the camera would help with a quick snap shot of new stock and I would not have to write catalog numbers down. I tried it with a friend's Zire and it worked pretty well. I just prefer pocket pc vs palm oc. I like the HP2210 and Dell X30, but no camera. Is the add on camera awkward to handle?
