PCI x1 slot what goes in them??

I have looked and looked but I can not locate any cards, plug ins or interfaces that go into PCI x1 slots. I have two on my mobo, what good are they.

go into the PCI Express 16 X slots [close to the size of the AGP slot.

PCI Ex 1 X's will be sound, modem things such as that.

There are also 4X and *X but generally reserved for servers.

As Robert said, what comes first with new items???
