PCG-2J1L keyboard & mouse not working

Woke up this morning to find that my keyboard and mouse are not working (both connected through a usb port). I was forced to do a hard reboot. Still, not working. When I pull out the plugs from the port, it makes the usual noise alerting me that something is being removed from the port. (windows Vista)

And sounds like the usual blown USB port issue. The usual noise is not a good test if the ports or keyboard/mouse are good. To do that test I try the USB devices on other machines and other devices and even another OS on the suspect machine.
