Question

PC wont turn on

Aug 22, 2018 11:10AM PDT

Hi, I have had this issue with my computer, one day it just randomly turned off, and now when I try to boot it up it turns on for about 0.5 seconds then it goes dead. This only happens if I unplug and plug my power cord.

ps: I have gotten power surge errors when I boot up for a while before it completely shut down .

Do anybody know whats wrong? maybe the psu?

Clarification Request
What PC?

https://www.google.com/search?q=The+Dead+PC finds our usual advice about making the PC smaller until it powers up or you reach a point where you have only a few parts left that don't work.

Why it matters about what this PC is is because if it's 10 years old there are parts that can cause such an issue like the CMOS battery. Even if it's a year old I always pop in a new one since it's cheap and I don't want to be chasing that ghost issue.

It's almost certain

you need a new PSU. The symptoms are descriptive of the reset in the PSU tripping each time it almost immediately turns on. Rectifiers are likely shorted or fused. If you keep trying this, you face the good chance of burning something else on the computer, such as processor or motherboard.
