Question

Pc wont recognize headphones or speakers

Aug 6, 2016 5:26PM PDT

I'm having trouble getting my computer to recognize any kind of audio device.

I'm on a dell inspirion 3847, running windows 8.1, which I've just factory reset earlier today.

Whenever I plug in an audio device, and the. Double click the volume button in the bottom right, it says checking for problems and then says there isn't an audio device plugged in. Even though I've tried this with both my headphones and speakers...
I've completely factory restored everything back, and I'm still having the same issues. I've checked device manager, it says realtek audio is enabled, and all the drivers are up to date and such .

I'm not sure what else to do, I don't currently have internet access to my computer (I'm posting this on my phone) so I'm limited to what I can try

Also I think it might be a hardware issue.. I'm not the best with hardware, but I feel like there might be something missing from back here ?

Thank you !

Tell more about the factory reset.

If it's the Microsoft builtin reset, that may reload/reset the OS but then you have to use your Dell Service TAG to go to Dell.com and get the drivers specific to your model. Also, Dell usually has an app called Quickset to control devices like WiFi and other things.

About the internet. I find that the Ethernet usually works after the usual reset.

And about Windows 10. I'm finding I have less drivers to find after the reset. You may want to take the upgrade.

Factory reset

I'm not sure , I just went to "this PC" and clicked reset my computer, and to erase everything and install the version of windows that came on the computer, which is 8.1.
I was using windows 10 before the reset and still have the same issues.

As far as downloading drivers I will just have to wait for internet, I don't currently have internet service where I am staying.

Thank you very much Happy

That's good news.

The way W10 works is that your PC is marked "good for 10." No hunting for CDKEYs.

You need to make or have the Windows 10 USB install key and then you can use that to install Windows 10. But you'll still need to install Dell specific drivers for your model.

That's done by using your Service Tag at Dell.com and for all the Dells that WiFi won't work after the install I have to use the Ethernet connection.

To make the USB Windows 10 USB memory stick use Microsoft's Media Creation Kit on another PC.
