At 3+GHz, the more usual is an overtaxed power supply. See 350Watt PSU's all the time that have collapsed under the strain. It's the cheapest part to replace in the set, but before all that you can DOWNSIZE the machine to no cards, no memory, no drives and see if the remaining CPU/HeatSinkFan (HSF), power supply, speaker will beep in protest. Then you can add one stick of RAM, a video card and try again...

Any Ideas on what might cause my computer to hang before even the BIOS screen every time I turn it on? When I powered up my box thismorning, It started to fire up, I heared the CDROM and Hard Drives start to whirr, and then the computer just hangs there... No bios screen, no beeps no nothing...
The "power good" light on the motherboard is on, all the fans are working, etc... just no nothing past the initial drive warm up, and nothing ever comes on the screen.
Could I have fried my cpu? Does anyone know what component failrue(s) might cause this kind of outcome? I was messing around with some.. well "unsavory" programs last night, is it possible that some malicious code erased my bios?
My mobo is an asus P4G8X, P4 3.06 CPU, Promise Tx2000 raid arrary if that helps....
