Question

PC tune up 2011

Dec 29, 2011 8:45AM PST

I bought this product a while back. It seems to do a very good job of speeding up my old computer. Does it automatically update itself? When you click on "update", it takes you to the AVG homepage. There's nothing there that tells you what to do then.

In addition, odd things are showing up on my system.

1. I can no longer click on an email address in excel that will open in outlook. I have my client files set up to do this. it says check with my administrator. I'm the administrator and I didn't change anything.

2. Not sure if this is related, but the picture on the screen is now way too big and as far as I know I didn't change anything.

Is it changing my system settings?

Thanks

Hello bkay,

Please be informed AVG PC Tuneup does not update itself automatically. Clicking on update will open AVG download page to allow user downloading the most recent AVG PC Tuneup installation package. Running the downloaded package will then install the most recent AVG PC Tuneup version available. Exact version of the currently installed AVG PC Tuneup can be found in Help menu -> About.

1. If the e-mail hyperlinks are no longer working after making some Tuneup optimizations, we recommend reverting the changes one by one to see which configuration change disabled this functionality. More information on how to revert PC Tuneup changes can be found in this FAQ article.
You can aslo try (re)setting Default Programs configuration in youw Windows (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7).

2. It seems that your Desktop resolution has been set to lower value. Please refer to one of these articles for more information on how to change your Desktop resolution:
Windows XP
Windows Vista
Windows 7

Thank you.

Revert the changes?

You have to be kidding. This product says it makes hundreds of changes each time you run it. If it really does make those changes, and I've run it 6 or 8 times and am not sure exactly when the change happened, you are not giving reasonable advice.

How, exactly do you update the product?
Dec 30, 2011 8:12AM PST

I'm not at all happy with this product. I click on the check for updates link and it takes me to what looks like the update link for AVG virus protection. It has a bunch of gobbledegook that I have no clue about. this is the page I get: http://www.avg.com/us-en/download-update?cmpid=inc_tuneup_check_for_updates

This page tells me to use the interface for updates, but my interface doesn't look like that. Yours says:
Scan
firewall
run pc analyzer
update now
help

Mine says:
Open
tools
quick tasks
program settings
exit

If I click exit, then the program icon is not in the tray any longer. (the avg free icon stays there)

where do I go from here?
