PC to Stereo

Nov 24, 2005 12:49PM PST

Hi,
I've been looking at getting a new shelf stereo system. One of the features is "USB input for connection to you PC". I was wondering how, why that works? I know you can hook up essentially anything with an audio out to the auxillary input of a stereo... but how does a hook up using usb work?
Thanks.

USB to stereo...

Without going into technical details, it's pretty much the same as using audio-in on the stereo side, except with the hardware including support for USB. Since it's just audio (not data) being transfered, the stereo does not need software to operate like an MP3 player does, and can be compared to a set of USB headphones for the computer. (The hardware simply needs to be able to accept the signal, and convert it into audio.) On the computer end, the appropriate software/drivers would need to be installed so that it recognizes the USB port as a method of outputting audio, but that's about it.

Hope this helps,
John

USB to stereo drivers/software

Would the stereo come with the appropriate software/drivers to recognize the usb port as an audio out? Or where abouts would I find one.

I'd assume...

I'd assume that the stereo would come with the software/drivers (if needed) to facilitate such, but you might want to get it straight from the horse's mouth by going to the manufacturer's website and see if you can find a user manual or list of accessories included/available. That should give you a better idea of what to expect if you do end up purchasing the stereo system.

Hope this helps,
John
