PC switch-on delay

Jun 18, 2007 2:39AM PDT

My PC is Compaq EVO D380mx PIV 845g 512MB, bought in 2002. Runs XP-pro SP2, with AVG free, AVG anti-spyware, ZA, and DiamondCS ProcessGuard. Windows patch uptodate.

This problem has started happening over the past one month. Initially, the PC would boot-up (on pressing the switch) only after some time had elapsed from the main power on state.

Gradually, the delay factor has increased considerably. However, once the PC gets on, it behaves normal, and shutdown is also normal.

What is the likely cause? Thanks,

Sounds Like...

...the power supply is heading south... Either that, or the power button itself.. Still, I would start with a power supply replacement and see if that fixes the issue. Older PS units tend to take longer to power up.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your advice. This is what has been suggested in a few other fora I posted ... plus, some more (tech stuff for my level Happy )

Good direction to start work.
