pc speakers 16watt total rms output

i went down to pcworld and got some advent 16watt total rms output speakers for my hp laptop thinking they should be louder than my cheap mikomi 2x1watt speakers, guess what the advent 16watts is the same loudness of the 2x1watts mikomi, is it my pc or do i have to buy some more expensive speakers

The 16 watts you quoted just mean the speaker can handle that power without blowing it to kingdom comes. What kind of power output do you use to drive it? one watt is still only one watt, as a matter of fact, one watt on the small speaker may sound louder because it is more efficient.
