PC Slow Loading...??

Nov 22, 2004 9:27PM PST

Using XP/SP2..IE6
Took me forever to get here..I have ran several virus/spyware etc programs and all are updated,(including Housecall) and PC is clean..Example of whats happening,,when i come here to "CNET" and click post,it goes to white page and sits there then to grey and sits there finally after i leave and come back sometimes three times it loads..Then click on post i want to read and goes to yellow page and just sits there til i "back" a few times and try try again.."google" is slow also..This is not normal for my PC,usually so fast can hardly keep up with it at times..and google usually loads instantly and others also but now all is Slow..
cache is cleaned out/temp and temporary files/all the normal maintence is done..prefetch folder is clean..if i let it sit,it never gives me that "cannot load" window..it will sit as long as i let it.
Help please.

The 'Forums Page' doesnt fully load..The bar across the top of the Post List is not there and the Arrows down the side that indicates 'post read'/etc dont show either.

It is very possible (and probable) that you are running popup software that is preventing all of the icons, etc. from loading. Try turning off one, by one each of your programs that has popup/banner ad blocking capability and see if this resolves the problem.

Also wondering why you are running multiple adware, spyware programs. Suggest that you look at going to a combined program, since it's possible that you are getting conflicts with the multiple programs you are running.

I would recommend either ZoneAlarm or Avast as a virus scanner and All-in-One SecretMaker for Adware, Spyware, Privacy Protection, Spam, Banner Ad, and Popup blocking.

Good Luck,

This may be a silly question Sumer but did you try rebooting? Also, maybe your ISP is having a dataflow problem? I had a similiar thing happen a couple of days ago and it was the ISP that was having problems.

Good afternoon roddy..YES rebooted..You wouldnt believe how long it took me to get here this time!!I already checked IP and no problems there.. bps is 48.0-49.8 every time..used diffrent dial number, nothing changed there either..Thought about it being SP2 but been close to 2 weeks with that now, guess if that was problem would have started after install...Going to try and explain what was happening when i logged on here this time..
sit at white page long time, then yellow, grey i think..but noticed at the very top of page IN BLUE was:
#12..if anything like. Now that was a post from you giving me a "Link" about things to check before SP2..have no idea how that got there! as i was was still waiting for page to load and page didnt load until i kept going back and finally "reboot" several times before it loaded..Still didnt get the "IE Error" about page cant be loaded, will just sit there long as i let it.,Seems i saw another "Documents" Folder other then the one that says:"My Documents or Sylvia's Documents" which contains Music,Received Files,Pictures,My albums,is there another one?? If so there was a long list in there but wasnt sure if ok to "delete" out of that one..Sorry,having a hard time explaining.

I have no idea, That sounds more like a virus of some sort. My suggestion before was NOT about the speed of your connection, I was suggesting that you call your ISP to see if they were having a data flow problem. You can be connecting fine but still not going anywhere, if you get my drift. LOL. Maybe try rebooting into safe mode and do a virus scan or try Cowboy Cursor's suggestion of IEFIX maybe? I think this may be out of my league. I'm a self taughter I'm afraid. I only know how to do things that I have already done before.

The usual,

Download and follow the instructions for "IEFix" - a general purpose fix for Internet Explorer (Win 98/ME/2000/XP):

Note: Else, some of the core Internet Explorer ".dll files" may not be correctly registered or need registering. First, verify the exact path of where the Iexplore.exe file is found and used as noted for the "Primary. . ." example. Second, click Start, Run, type exactly "Primary Hard Drive Letter:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" /rereg, and then either click OK or press Enter.

a. Registers Urlmon.dll, Mshtml.dll, Actxprxy.dll, Oleaut32.dll, Shell32.dll, Shdocvw.dll, [Q281679].

b. Refreshes Internet Explorer using IE.INF method. Note:

"Unable to Install Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP (Q304872)"

"How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP (Q31837Cool"

c. Initiates "SFC /Scannow" (Win2K&XP), [Q310747].

Re: PC Slow Loading...?? UPDATE!
Nov 23, 2004 12:35PM PST

After suggestions here didnt work..Did A Couple Of Things..Turned Off "Block Popups" in IE..That was due to problem in MSGamingZone(fixed that)

Deleted out old "CNET Forums Link"..created a "New Cnet Forums Link".. and that "#12 if anything like Cnet perhaps" (LINK) that I opened to read about things to do before Installing SP2 was apparently somehow still "opened" and hanging around, kept showing up at the top of page in blue, so I clicked on it,it opened and I was able to "Close it out". Rebooted and now PC is back to Normal and 'flying' again..Thanks for all replies, your help was very much appreciated.
(Guess that Post and Link got stuck somehow?? If thats possible? No matter what Forum or Post i clicked to open, that one was always listed at top of page in blue.)
Very Strange to me!! but it sure did happen.

I was brave!

I installed it 2 weeks ago after seeing your thread about taking the plunge.

Fortunately for me I had no problems. Well, so far at least.
