You won't be able to salvage much. This system will also hinder you for any further future upgrade.

And a fine way to prove price is not a measure of build Q

The single stick of RAM will sap the CPU performance. Look at the i5 used at https://www.reddit.com/r/PCMasterRace/wiki/builds

It's the 6400. You have the 6600 K version. Why? Given that there is no issue of GPU bottlenecks way back to the i5 gen 1 CPUs, you could copy a design from the link given and end up with a fine gamer.

Change the mix a little.
Ram....2x4GB @ 2133.

I'd go for the 6400 cpu.

Since your not planning on doing this for four months keep your eyes on a rx 480 or a gtx 1060/70/80.

While I'd start over

There are a few short term solutions.

1. Try it as-is and set the graphics to as low as possible.
2. Reveal what PSU. And then see if your setup can handle the 950 or later Nvidia GPUs.
3. While it's not going to help frame rate, if boot/load times are long, shop for a new SSD. Here I snagged a 480GB SSD for 99 bucks (may be less now.)

Throw Linux on it

Either Mint or Ubuntu MATE versions. Keep it around for backup, or better for all your secure connections such as to banks.
