PC Repair Co. seeks pricing feedback

Jun 7, 2009 7:55AM PDT

Cust. told me he was looking at porn. HEAVY INFECTIONS removed and charged $180 for 2 hrs., but XP system corrupted. Next day tried Windows repair, but it couldn't find a driver, so I backed up all data, then full system recovery, reinstalled drivers and data and charged normal flat rate fee for this: $300. So now cust. is mad because he said for the $480 he spent on this he could have bought a new unit. I explained that we never know what effects malware will have on a system after cleaning, and he would still have had infected data to go on a new unit. We charge $180 for data recovery.
So far he has paid me $180 for malware removal and $216 for annual managed services program ($396 total)and even though it's fair, feel reluctant to charge the $300 extra for full recovery bringin total to $696! Anyone have any suggestions? In this economy and market, am I ripping him off or asking for a fair return? Thanks so much!

Sounds in line with the area I'm in.

Here the "counter fee" is 150. That is you can expect to drop 150 just for them to tell you that your hard disk is dead. Then the parts and more.

They are right they could buy new machines but what we must do is give estimates and try to stick to those numbers.

Data recovery fees seem to be in the 600 buck range so your numbers again were in line. If they want to compare, get them to call DriveSavers.

These I understand the need to make that extra buck, but $ extra is completely uncalled for, I run a small business Selling hardware and software of that nature, I recently went to my tech guys around the corner great customer, I had a similar problem vith one of my desktops in office due to a short in the houise and some malware; to back up all the file and redo the drive nothing more than $89.00 that included and aditional GB of ddr2 memory. there other solutions to minimize work load and create better customer satisfaction.
