PC reboots when playing certain games

Feb 16, 2020 7:38PM PST

I recently built my first PC, and I ran into a problem. When I play games like League of Legends, my PC works fine. However, when I play other games like Sea of Theives and Beat Saber, my PC reboots. The strange thing about it is that I play a game called A Dance of Fire of Ice, which even a lemon can run, and that also reboots my pc. I do not get a BSOD, it shuts down as if I turned the PC off and on again. I've also ran Time Spy, with no reboot. All of my drivers and bios are up to date, I'm on the latest version of Windows 10, and my temps are reasonable, around 60-70C. Full load CPU temp is around 80-85. I've searched my problem online, and I think the problem might be AMD drivers. MSI BIOS ver. 7C02v35

Specs: Ryzen 3600 RX 5700 XT Red Devil MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX OLOy x2 DDR4 16gb 3200 Corsair CX750M(the white version)

Since you wrote Ryzen.

Those require you to install the BIOS that the maker calls for as well as drivers and set the BIOS per the maker or a forum telling you what to set it to. I encounter a lot of Ryzen systems where the self builder never heard about all the work needed.

Finally there are games that will reboot such as Fallout 76 and it's not your PC at fault.

I don’t understand.

The motherboard that I have is supposedly Ryzen 3000 ready and I have downloaded the latest BIOS. My drivers are also up to date.

That needs more detail.

I've seen folk use the Windows driver update feature. Sorry but that is not going to get the work done. Nothing has changed in decades here so I wait for you to tell me about your steps about the drivers.

Also, the UP TO DATE may be incorrect. A few makers when you ask have you install specific versions of BIOS and drivers. Rare but happens.

Since it's new, use their forums as well as RMA what you feel is defective.

As to the PSU, there are too many models. Supply a link for me to check it out but what I will check is that the +12V is single rail which you can check yourself.

The detail.

1. For graphics drivers, I go to AMD’s website, search drivers for the RX 5700 XT, and download the latest recommended driver.
For BIOS, I go to MSI’s website, search BIOS for the Tomahawk Max, and download the latest BIOS on a flash drive, and use the bios to update.

2. I’ve searched if I needed specific BIOS for my processor, but it doesn’t seem I need a specific BIOS.

3. I am currently doing a fresh install of Windows 10, and if that doesn’t fix it, I will RMA my psu.
Question, could the problem be that I haven’t activated windows yet?

No to the activating Windows question.

Never has mattered.

I see the PSU looks fine but you appear to have not asked the motherboard maker yet.

There are motherboards that are defective and you only find out with the RMA or asking the maker.

Also https://www.google.com/search?q=MSI+B450+Tomahawk+MAX+REBOOTS finds so many complaints that I would not hesitate to RMA this back to the seller and try another model. To avoid that I would see if the maker has a fix out.
