Hi...Hope its not a big problem...Started this morning My pc shuts down and reboots itself, has done this twice today.. Custom made. I'm running AMD 2400+, 768 ram, 5200 geforce video 80gb hard drive 21% full, trend 2005 Internet security antivirus...I have and run all of my anti-spy-ware programs daily and clear everything daily with CCleaner, all my fans are working, seems like its going to start doing this and I would like to check it before it gets worse, Any thoughts?........Thanks in advance...

anti-spyware may not be getting everything. It usually takes two or three different apps to get everything. Get Adaware and Spybot. They're free. Also, you might try downloading the free "scan" programs of a few other commercial programs to give you an idea about how good what you are running is. I assume you are using TrendMicro's anti-virus. Go to McAfee and do their free anti-virus scan. I also assume you have kept the definition file up-to-date? Delete all your cookies, Windows .temp or .tmp files and the prefetch files. Reboot and defrag. Let us know how it works out. I'll track this thread for a few days.

and life goes on...

Please note that just above the text editor (where you enter a question on the forum) is the following paragraph in RED, and if certain information is not present in your question, our reply may not be very helpful:

Note: If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem.

Note also: You have the option of using the hyperlink ''Edit My Profile'' on the right side of the main page to fill in applicable system information so that it is available.

1. The article [Q307973] suggests that users configure the actions that Windows takes when a severe error (also called a fatal system error, or Stop error) occurs. Also, please read the article, "A Description of the Safe Mode Boot Options in Windows XP (Q315222)," for accessing a system that will not boot normally.

2. The article [Q308427] states that an "event" is any significant occurrence in the system or in a program that requires users to be notified or an entry be added to one of three logs that can help identify and diagnose the source of current system problems, or help predict potential system problems.

3. The article [Q314084] describes how to gather more information about an error message using Pstat.exe, a Resource Kit utility run from the command line that gives a picture of the processes and drivers that are currently running.

4. Access the TechNet "Windows XP Events and Errors" page or the site "EventID.Net", type the Source (for example, Print) and/or the Event code (for example, 20) into the ID field, then either click the Go button or simply press ENTER. -- the two most important items of information concerning an Event. When a reference is rendered, simply following the prompts for additonal information/help. You may also find the site information "How do I view the error messages registered in Event Log?" helpful in understanding how and what to do.
