Question

Pc randomly shuts down

Apr 1, 2017 6:55AM PDT

Hello there. Sorry I don't know if this is the right category where to ask about my.problem..
So.. yesterday while i was playing my pc turned off.. and didn't wanted to start until i removed all of the cables from the motherboard and put them back in..
My guess was that maybe the gpu or cpu were overheating.. so i tried to enter a game while monitoring the themperature.. but it looks like the pc turns off with or without the gpu.. and the cpu themperature doesn't go higher than 42° C. The pc always goes off after 20 mins of staying on desktop or bios.. also when pressing reset switch pc goes off then restarts
My specs : intel G3xx ( don't remember the exact number ) 3.00 ghz
Ram :6 gb ram 1600 Mhz
Gpu : Nvidia Gtx 560
Motherboard : Gigabyte GA-B85M-HD
Power supply : Kiss Quiet 620 (650 W)
If there are more info i should provide.. tell me and i'll do it.
Thank you and Sorry for my bad english

Have You Done Your Routine Cleaning?
Apr 1, 2017 11:24AM PDT

Open up the case of the case of the computer and use compressed air to blow out all the dust from around the processor, heatsink, power supply, and all fans and vents. And tell us whether you've recently cleaned off and reapplied a thin coating of thermal paste between the processor and heatsink?

Hope this helps and let us know more.

That looks to be a 5 year old PC.

As such I'd start with a deep cleaning. Clean everything so it's as new then replace all heatsink compounds on all heatsinks. As you button up, test and replace all slow or failed fans.

Not all issues are heat related on old gear. It could be time for new motherboard, GPU or PSU.

Run chkdsk /f /r from a command prompt. After rebooting, check the Event Logs for what it shows and post that info here.

The pc always goes off after 20 mins of staying on desktop or bios..

from speccy;
Turn Off Hard Disk after: (On AC Power): 20 min

Set that to 40 minutes just to test if the 20 minute shutdowns turn into 40 minutes instead.

Troubleshooting

Hello,

I would recommend checking Event viewer built into windows. Check what error occurs before your computer shuts down. That would be the best indicator allowing you to fix this issue.

When your computer shuts down. Try removing just the power cable and putting it back in. I have a feeling this might be a power supply issue.

Please let us know how you get on with this, or if you need any clarification.
