Question

PC Internet Rapidly Cuts Out

Jun 20, 2019 3:52PM PDT

My PC uses a wired internet connection directly from the router. Every hour or so the internet cuts our for anywhere from 5-50 seconds then connects me back like nothing happened. I have tested whether the Ethernet cord, connection splitter i use (as my Nintendo Switch also has wired internet), or the router itself is the problem and all signs lean back towards the pc being the issue. Is there anyway to fix this issue without having to revert back to factory settings?

Your wired Internet connection to your PC could be cutting out every hour or so for 5 to 50 seconds due to a number of reasons. They are the following.

- The router may be not maintaining the connection properly.
- The PC has a problem in the Ethernet adapter.
- An issue on the ISP's side may be present.

It is best to test the Wifi connection if possible, first. A good Wifi connection without any cutting out of the connection will rule out the ISP's side. Other devices should be tested for connectivity, too. Should the router be at fault, it is best to replace it. A problem beyond the router would require the ISP being contacted for them to look into the source of the periodic cuts in connectivity from their side.

Also, faulty Ethernet or Wifi adapters can be replaced if needed.

try a direct connection to the modem and see if you still have the problem.

Thanks for your help, I tried both of your solutions and neither worked out. After running a few more test myself I just ended up fully reinstalling the pc. Now everything works great!

Thanks for your contributions, in the end though I am almost certain I had a virus on my pc and just needed to reinstall it.
