PC input won't stretch to 1920x1080

Jan 28, 2009 11:37AM PST

Ok so here is my issue. I hook my desktop up to my 46A650 using the PC input. I have my resolution set to 1920x1080 with my computer monitor and it looks great fits the full screen. But when i hook to my TV 46A650 it doesn't fill the full screen unless i change the resolution to 1360x768? The screen fits North and South on the TV, but it's shrunk East and West. Almost looks like its shrunk to 4:3 aspect ratio. Any ideas how to fix this?

Also can i buy a VGA to HDMI cable and run this cable from my desktop to the TV? I have read that VGA is analog and HDMI is digital so these cables won't work. Is this true?

Is the picture size set correctly?
Jan 28, 2009 11:55AM PST

I don't have my laptop with me at the moment to test, but I believe that you can change the picture size between 16:9 and 4:3 on the VGA input... do you have the correct one selected?

A VGA to HDMI cable probably won't work... but a DVI->HDMI cable would (and I think most computers these days have DVI output).

Yes the tv is set to 16:9
Jan 28, 2009 12:20PM PST

Yes the picture size is 16:9. When I change the resolution to 1360x768 it fits the screen perfectly. If I change the resolution to 1920x1080 is when it looks shrunk to 4:3 aspect. But the tv is set to 16:9. It's weird ino, I know enough about this stuff to know that it should work fine. I can't figure out why my PC won't fill the screen up when the res is set to 1920x1080. It just doesn't make any sense!

Resolution...

budjev,

I apologize for the delay of my response.

According to the manual (P44), the highest resolution that the television can support with a VESA input is 1360x768.

In short, here are the accepted resolutions:

640 x 480
640 x 480
640 x 480
800 x 600
800 x 600
800 x 600
1024 x 768
1024 x 768
1024 x 768
1280 x 1024
1280 x 1024
1360 x 768

I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Driver
Mar 2, 2009 1:26AM PST

You shouldn't HAVE to set your resolution 1920x1080, but that monitor should support it. That is if you want the resolution to be 1920x1080. If you don't have the option to set your resolution to 1920x1080 then search for a new driver for that monitor and download it. Once you download the new driver from the brand of your monitor or PC's website you should see a resolution of 1920x1080 in your settings. If you can't find the driver just google your monitors "model # driver" and you should be able to find it!

Viewsonic....

mackiebj,

I'm not sure which part of your configuration is Samsung, but that's more of a Viewsonic related question.

I was unable to find a driver for either of the two models you specificed, but here is the link directly to their driver page:

I hope that helps!

PC scale
Mar 2, 2009 3:56PM PST

1920x1080 is not a PC scale resolution so if it works I would say; that's amazing. When you connect your TV using HDMI or DVI>HDMI you WILL be able to view 1920*1080p the way you're supposed to.

Using a Ln32A550 with no problems but must use HDMI 2!
Mar 3, 2009 12:13PM PST

Not sure about your set, but on the 550, only the HDMI 2 input can support DVI (what your PC will output). Using the other inputs did work, but the picture quality was less. Once you connect your PC using a DVI connection, you may notice a black box around the picture. My graphics card detected I was using a HDTV. Since most HDTV's "over-scan" the image (a hang over from tube TV days), it decided to help me out by "under-scanning" the image so I did not lose anything.

Once I went into the advanced settings and set under-scan to 0%, the picture was very good (and very sharp).
