Question

PC Hardware Issues

May 15, 2018 3:20PM PDT

Hi guys,

I am not the best at diagnosing problems, but recently my PC has been running really slow.

When I go into task manager and then performance, it seems like my Disk drive is spiking a lot when doing simple tasks such as opening Google Chrome or Steam.

I have also installed something call Crystal Disk Info and that is showing the following:
Health Status: Caution
Colour: Yellow
ID: 05
Attribute Name: Reallocated Sectors Count
Current: 88
Worst: 88
Threshold: 36

What makes this even more confusing is that I am getting the same issue with my second drive as well as my drives from my second PC.

From what I have described above, it is making me feel like it could be an issue with my motherboard.

If anyone has any ideas or could help, please do so.

Thanks in advance.

Your hdd is junk.

Swap it out while you still have time to clone it.

It's dying, just not gone. At least you have time to clone it to a new drive before the end.

Looks like Lee brought your original speccy back to life.

You usually see read failures which is in the 01 and 07 ID values. Sorry folk but this means the drive has failed and needs replacement.

That is unless you can live with the annoying delays and eventual death.

It seems the forums eat speccy links.

Run the speccy again and post the unique ID at the end of the speccy link.

I revived it, yeah the filter has a thing for speccy links

Plain Will look into it.

Sorry all, please carry on.

Any replacements that you can suggest - not too expensive?

Be aware I see SeaTools passing these drives.

And under 40 for the 2 year warranty one.

Yup

If the op wanted to stop by my home I would give them two 500GB WD blacks and a 32GB ssd.

Can't get much cheaper than that.

Right now they are earmarked for the local goodwill store.

Are not in demand. I took mine on a trip to Canada and set up some folk that had some failed gear there. You can imagine I am trying to cut back on collecting.

I've moved away from the hdd world and mine are just clutter sitting on the shelf.

Amazing the way that clutter keeps growing over the yrs.

SeaTools

Hey, sorry to hear you're experiencing trouble with your drive. We have a free, official diagnostic software called SeaTools you can try running which will give you a pass/fail result on your drive.

If you would like to look into any potential warranty availability on the drive, here is our Warranty Validation Tool.
