Question

Pc goes into black screen with cursor. Safe mode works.

Hi! My pc has been acting a little weird until today when it went to a black screen and did not come back as always... It has been happening for a few days but restarting the Explorer.exe worked but now even that does not work. I have tried chkdsk and sfc /scannow and they report good. Safe mode works as usual tho. I don't have any system backups for restore. I have a windows Cd and think system reinstall as a last ditch response. I need help!

Since you have no restore points

In reply to: Pc goes into black screen with cursor. Safe mode works.

You should be able to use the Windows CD to repair the OS IF it's the Win 10 disc. .

nothing was said about no restore points

In reply to: Since you have no restore points

it said no system backups to restore. two are completely different .

No restore points either

In reply to: nothing was said about no restore points

I usually don't use Internet so not much things happen so I don't have any

No luck

In reply to: Since you have no restore points

System repair reports everything as fine

You're right

In reply to: Since you have no restore points

I assumed the OP had no restore points because a lot of folks that come here with no back ups have no restore points , the just don't say it unless we ask.

Since you have a CD player

In reply to: So, You have a screen in safe mode ?

does it play DVD's also ?

I think you should burn a live Linux usb/ disc and boot off of it to see if this is a hardware problem .
Here are some Tutorials for you

Yeah I have

In reply to: Since you have a CD player

BTW.... I was just planning to install remix os on my pc. I had downloaded the file on my android(on which I am typing now) and was ready and this problem started

Yeah

In reply to: So, You have a screen in safe mode ?

Safe mode works good as ever so I don't think the problem is hardware related.

When in Safe Mode

In reply to: Yeah

The drivers don't load . Open the control panel , open Device Manager , look at your "Display Adapters " and see if you have Yellow exclamation marks . If you do, you have bad drivers.
If you see this, Right click on that Driver and uninstall it . Reboot , you can let Windows install the new Driver or use the web to find the correct one , unless you have a disc with thr drivers, than by all means use that.

Let us know what happens.

P.S , what flavor of Windows is installed on this computer and is it legit ?

Nope

In reply to: When in Safe Mode

Everything is normal. I even reinstalled the drivers. Still no luck

I wish it was true.

In reply to: Yeah

Safe Mode doesn't push the hardware as hard so to declare the hardware good when safe mode works is premature.

Collapse -
Hmm...

In reply to: I wish it was true.

I m installing remix os on pen drive to see the hardware problems

Collapse -
That's a nice idea

In reply to: Hmm...

But may not exercise all areas of the PC.

Done

In reply to: That's a nice idea

I triple booted(if that's a thing) with my old windows, a new fresh on another partition and remix os. Both of the new ones worked perfectly but still I want my own original windows back.

Re:original Windows

In reply to: Done

If system restore doesn't help, it seems time for reinstall, as you suggested already in your first post.
