PC freezes, average CPU, memory and disk usage

So for the past couple of weeks my PC has been freezing up everytime I use it at seemingly random times. When it freezes up it usually starts with one program freezing, followed by every other program until its completely locked up and the only solution is a hard reset.

Now Ive not changed anything to have caused this problem and ive tried everything I can think of to fix it, malware checks, driver updates, defrags etc. The strange thing is if i open the task manager and watch the values as my PC starts to freeze up, nothing spikes, all the values sit at a comfortable idling speed like nothings happening. And Ive also checked system logs at the time of the crash and any system logs in the minute or two before the crash are non existent.

Anyone have any ideas? I really dont want to have to do a system reset if possible.

sounds like a RAM access problem

download and run memtest on your RAM to make sure it's OK. Also check how much free space on the hard drive you still have, because windows can start doing that when there's less than 10% left.
