Question

PC Freeze

Aug 7, 2017 4:05PM PDT

I am going mad trying to figure out why my computer locks up. It only happens when I'm gaming; sometimes 5 minutes, sometimes 4 hours in, and it doesn't seem to be all games - but again I can't find a pattern. For example low graphics setting LoL or WoW can cause it to freeze, but sometimes i can play Dynasty Warriors 8 on high and it won't.

What I've done:
Checked sound and video Drivers.
Ran Memory test
Avast and Malwarbytes full sweeps
Cleaned and defraged disks
Cleaned with compressed air

Specs:
CPU: Intel(R) Core™ Processor i7-6700K 4.00GHZ 8MB Intel Smart Cache
FAN: Asetek 550LC 120mm Liquid Cooling CPU Cooler - Extreme Cooling
Performance (Single Standard 120MM Fan)
HDD: 240GB SanDisk Z410 SSD + 2TB SATA III Hard Drive Combo (Combo Drive)
MEMORY: 16GB (8GBx2) DDR4/2800MHz Dual Channel Memory (ADATA XPG Z1)
MOTHERBOARD: GIGABYTE G1.Sniper Z170 SLI ATX w/ USB 3.1, 3 PCIe x16, 2
PCIe x1, 3 SATA Express, 6 SATA3, 1 Ultra M.2
OS: Windows 10 Home (64-bit Edition)
OVERCLOCK: No Overclocking
POWERSUPPLY: 600 Watts - Standard 80 Plus Certified Power Supply -
SOUND: HIGH DEFINITION ON-BOARD 7.1 AUDIO
VIDEO: GeForce(R) GTX 1070 8GB GDDR5 (Pascal)[VR Ready] (Single Card)

Any additional suggestions or idea would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Psu seems to be a single rail....that's good.

Speccy.

There are newer bios available....see the maker's site.
Why are you turning off the hdd in the power profile?
Leave the case cover off for a test.

Speccy reading. What I would try.

This reading is only that. I never claim this fixes a PC but it is what I would tweak if it was mine.

1. First off, nice set of parts in this PC. Should run most things well.

2. JAVA. Unless you know you need it, uninstall till stable.
3. Power Profile. Set all to never till stable.

4. BIOS is outdated. Usually we leave this alone unless there are troubles. In your case the board is at F4 and many notes leading up to F22a are items that can contribute to odd hangs.
-> I'd update this to latest. The V.core adjust or added memory compatibility is why.

5. Optical Disc Drive (ODD). If you can, unplug it till the machine is stable.

6. Was this working until you installed Nvidia's latest driver?
Here's a google on that version. It's not old but there are more hits than I expected.

If it was fine before, try an older or newer Nvidia driver.

I mean, I would have done same thing as you did. You should go to the service center i think.
