Question

PC failure to switch on

May 12, 2018 2:54AM PDT

When I switch my PC on it comes up with the error message "Disc boot failure" and instantly switches off itself. Got another HD, connected it with the PC. The same problem. Removed RAMs, checked the pc for broken wires, they are good. I am running out of ideas.

When you get the bios splash screen press the needed key to enter the bios.

What does the boot order show?

More items to check in BIOS

I've had this occur when the CMOS coin cell goes dead. If so, when the machine has been unpowered, BIOS can revert to "Default Settings" which could be incorrect not only for boot order, but also ACHI/IDE selection, Secure Boot, or UEFI settings (and maybe some other things some one else might mention.). Check all of them. (A tell-tale sign of this problem would be if the time and date are wrong.)
