PC down, needs help

by monaco09 / September 17, 2005 8:36 AM PDT

I think I picked up something from using newsgroups. My PC is dead. When I boot it up (XP) I get rundll32.exe cannot run properly and the norton antivirus program sends a message that it cannot load.

I was able to use the computer for a while like that, but now it just freezes at this point. No mouse movement or anything.

I have tried restoring to a different date without effect. I found a file called dl.exe that websites said was a virus so I blew it off.

Can anyone help?

You might get better replies than this one, but without doubt if I were in YOUR shoes, I'd just reformat my hard-drive(s) (if I thought it was a virus I do them all), and reinstall Windows XP.

Clean, simple, and effective.

Most of us are suggesting to users to install Microsoft AntiSpyware in addition to Spybot S&D and Ad-aware SE. When it comes to spyware problem we cannot be over protected. Spyware is big problem for years now and the combination of the above mentioned scanners in one system is OK.
However, we have to take note that MSAS is still in BETA. Not all users are comfortable in running Beta program.

If I'm not mistaken, Bob Proffitt mentioned before that he plan to update his "Anti-Parasite Suite" topic.
