PC doesn't react when I plug in a USB flash disk

Nov 2, 2004 3:59PM PST

When I plug in a USB flash disk (or a USB hardware such as a camera...), I get no reaction and the USB disk icon doesn't appear in the taskbar. My Computer doesn't show the removable media. These hardwares work all right in other PCs. I suspect it's a virus, but Norton ATV '04 didn't find any. Device Manager shows no problem.
Do you have any solutions?

This is typical if the BIOS or Motherboard Drivers are not installed or up to date. http://www.usbman.com echoes this as well.

You didn't tell the make/model machine so I can't help you find these items. Some items do not work in some versions of Windows, but you didn't tell if you use Windows or what version.

I have a Transcend 128 MB USB Flash drive where can I find a driver to use with Win XP

IT tells me it loaded it and is working corectly but can not locate it on my computer

Again, such is typical of missing motherboard drivers.

You revealed the make/model USB drive, but nothing about the host machine.

Why?

Windows XP

has already loaded it for you, but have you opened MY COMPUTER and looked down the drive letters for the 'removable device'? That's how XP shows mine.

If it's a DELL, or similar and doesn't show up as a listed drive in explore or 'my computer' after 2-3 minutes, just reboot and a drive letter should be assigned (XP) You can also update your BIOS as has been suggested. Check with your CPU or motherboard manufacturer. This assumes your fash device has some form of hardware firmware device (chip) on board. Otherwise you may need some software.

If you're running win98, you need a small driver to allow its use. Goto the support website of the USB flashdrive and they should have one. I forget about winMe, but that too maybe covered. Verify that USB setting is set within the bios is active for the plug(s) in question. This is not the case for XP, though it should be native for its use.

good luck -----Willy ":)"

Or an alternative to Willy"s message. If it's 98 or ME, the program may already be on the supplied disc, but you have to look for it. XP is loaded by default. This is the case with my Media Reader. chuck

You probably do not have USB ports enabled on BIOS.
Please check it and post back.
