PC crashing at startup

by Luke_watts / March 1, 2007 2:54 AM PST

Well, I had been installing Comodo Firewall just restarted and now my PC keeps crashing, I've disabled some things from my startup just to make sure, and it doesn't completely crash because I can use my cursor but it's unusable, put it that way. Anyone have ANY suggestions, atm I'm running in Safe Mode.

Did you uninstall or system restore to when it worked?

I have encountered a few that insist on keeping that last item that causes the crash.

Are you sure it's crashed?

After I installed extra harddrives in my new computer it stalls for about 1.5 minutes when windows strts up. I see the cursor and the wallpaper loaded, but therere is a 1+ min pause before WinXP continues loading explorer, taskbar and all the strtup programs. I'm fairly sure it's the addition of a harddisk tht did this because when i unplug it, win boots without that pause. Still when it first started happening I kept thinking it crashed and kept resrting it (which is probably the worst thing you couyld do).

Give this a shot: boot, leave it alone for X-minutes. It could be like my problem - just confused about some setting.

Anyway if all else fails, boot in safe mode and do a system restore. That really is a nifty feature in XP.

Good luck.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
